Things Every Albion Citizen Knows

- The Blessed Virgins: A statue carved of purest white marble, situated in the center of Elysian Park. The statues depict a pair of young women of indeterminate age in supplicating poses, faces a study in the beatific. Town legend has it that an offering made to the Virgins will bring luck on the one offering. The statues at times weep real tears.

- The Quarry: located between the town and the mine, Deschute’s Quarry has lain abandoned for years. A failed attempt to mine natural stone for work in Albion, the quarry has sine become a local swimming hole. Legends attribute the murky water to massive catfish at the bottom who stir up silt and mud. No-one has ever seen one of these catfish, but people, usually older kids while teasing younger kids, swear they’ve felt something cool and slick brush their feet as they swam and at times, the normally placid surface is disturbed by large ripples and wakes as though something large is swimming just below the surface.

- The Mine: The local silver mine, run by Clark Albus, is startling in its silver lode. Apparently still going strong over 150 years after it was found, it is called by some the most valuable silver mine in the country. Mr. Albus employs a team of miners that are deeply loyal to him, and if occasionally, one suffers a fatal mishap, well, who would question it? Miners die on the job all the time…

- The Orchard: Growing grounds for the famous Albion Gold, a strain of apple made famous in a series of advertisements that showcased the apple throughout mythology. The Albion Gold is a large, very sweet apple with almost no bite. Its skin is the color of brushed gold, with a slight gloss to it that appeals to almost any demographic. The breeding of the variety is a closely held secret, and the growers don’t talk.

- Whitmore Shopping District: Here can be found numerous shops run by local craftsmen. Albion boasts some amazing carpenters, specializing in antique-style furniture made with old world values. As well, it is something of a mecca for artists of all disciplines, and regularly hosts local artists at its many galleries. This part of town is also home to many fine eateries, from standard ‘American’ fare to more exotic dishes prepared and served by townsfolk from around the world. Albion is a true multi-cultural melting pot, where all are welcome…if they can live by the rules.

- White Cliffs: Albion’s White Cliffs community is where the town elite live. It rests atop a cliff face made of marble that glitters in the sunlight. Beautiful homes and spacious gardens highlight this gated community, and above, looking down over all of Albion, rests the sprawling estate of Alessandra Montenegro. Reminiscent of a temple in ancient Greece, Ms. Montenegro’s home is exquisite, with rolling gardens, a hedge maze, a huge pool with a fountain shaped like Poseidon in the center. It is the site of an annual gathering of the entire town in early May that can be best described as a barely reserved bacchanal.

- Avalon Crossing: The housing district of Albion in which the majority of the town resides. At the center, the hub of all roads is City Hall, it’s location a symbol of the Mayor’s and the council’s place – supported by the community and open to it at all times.

- Albion Public Library: Run by Alice Mayweather, town historian and oldest citizen of Albion. The Library is surprisingly large, for a small town. It boasts current best sellers and older classics, as well as a wide selection of magazines. Ms. Mayweather’s dedication to availability of information even extends to a special adults-only section in which one can find erotic material normally sold under convenience store counters. In addition, the top floor of the library, called by some “The Hall of Old Evils” is home to the largest collection of atrocity information and paraphernalia in the Southwest, ranging in era from Crusade to Inquisition, Native genocide to slavery, the Holocaust to the Wolf Lake Incident. Many in town wonder why this floor exists, since it seems to glorify rather than educate, but Ms. Mayweather explains that it is meant as a chilling reminder of how far humans are willing to go to get what they want.

- Albion Medical Center: Run with an iron fist by Dr. Victor Prometheus, Albion Medical Center is a testament to the triumph of willpower and science over superstition. The Medical Center is amazingly high tech, one of - if not THE - most technologically advanced hospital in America, yet it does not seem to have many patients outside of Albion itself. Why does this miracle of modern science not offer its services to the world at large? And what secrets lie beyond the sealed stairway to the top floor?
